Signature Capture

Scope items can now be signed by hand using a signature pad, allowing signers to draw their signature directly. This feature is enabled per-process and offers both drawn and electronic signing options, supporting role-based delegation in field sessions.

Scope items can now be signed by hand. Where it is enabled, the signature card offers Draw signature - a signature pad opens and the signer draws with a finger, pen or mouse, then presses Sign. The drawn signature appears on the signature line of the card, above the signer's name and date, and is carried into the checklist and handover reports.

This is meant for the situation where people sign together in the field: one person carries the tablet, and each signer draws on it in turn.

Enabling it

Signature Capture is a per-process setting. On the process, switch on Enable Signature Capture; the signature pad then appears on scope items running that process. Processes where it is not switched on continue to use one-click electronic signing.

Signing electronically remain available alongside the pad - the pad is an additional way to sign, not a replacement, and the signer chooses.

Signing on someone else's device, and who may hand it over

When the signature line is assigned to a role rather than a named person, the pad's header shows a Sign as lookup listing the members of that role in the item's org unit. The device holder picks who is about to sign, hands over the device, and that person draws.

The result is recorded as two people:

  • Signed by — the person who actually signed, the one whose name and drawn signature appear on the line.

  • Delegated by — the person who was logged in and holding the device. The card shows "Delegated By …" for this case.

Handing the device to someone else to sign is a delegation of trust, so it is controlled by a capability: only users who hold the delegate-signature capability get the Sign as lookup. Everyone else can sign only as themselves. Grant that capability to the roles that run field sessions - typically the person who owns the tablet and leads the walkthrough.

Where it applies

The signature pad is available on the scope item execution 2 screen.

Practical notes

  • Clear wipes the pad, Undo removes the last stroke.

  • The pad adapts to the width of the screen or window, so a tablet in landscape gives a comfortable signing area.
