Consultant stories: Chris Arne Andersen
With extensive experience in ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and consulting, Andersen’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. He is currently working as an ISO Engineer on Aker BP's Ula and Valhall projects, and last year, he was nominated by his colleagues for the "Something to be Proud of" award. In their nomination, his colleagues praised Andersen's "unique mindset" and his dedication to ensuring that tasks are completed on time and within budget. They also commended his hands-on approach, regularly inspecting work on-site and identifying significant cost-saving opportunities.
“It’s rare for me to get emotional, but I shed a few tears when I found out about the nomination,” Andersen admits.
“After a year-and-a-half of intense work, it’s nice to feel appreciated, especially when you strive to go the extra mile every day. Aker BP really knows how to recognize and value their people.”
Andersen also appreciates the advantages of being a consultant through Omega 365.
“I'm very happy with Omega’s system. I was already familiar with the company before applying for my first position, and I liked how they presented the ISO work. There’s never any fuss, and I know I can always call if something comes up.”
A passion for the job
Andersen takes pride in his work, consistently focusing on delivering results and keeping projects on track. Despite commuting between Stavanger and his home in Øygarden, Norway, he is known for being the first to arrive at the office on Monday morning and the last to leave on Friday afternoon.
“I love my job. I even enjoy working on projects and reviewing spreadsheets in the evenings. That’s why I travel down on Sunday night—to be fully prepared and ready to start first thing on Monday. I’m fortunate to have the most patient wife in the world,” he says with a smile.
As a father of four, Andersen sometimes feels the sacrifices that come with his demanding schedule. He often misses his children’s football matches and can’t always help with homework for the two children who are still at home. That’s why he makes sure to be fully present during his time off and values the flexibility his employer offers, including the option to work remotely when necessary. Taking holidays also helps him maintain balance.
“It’s usually in winter that I can take the vacation others enjoy in the summer here in Norway. But now that there are two of us in this role, that might change.”
A family tradition in ISO
As a Senior Integrity Delivery Engineer, Andersen plays a crucial role in maintaining and operating production facilities, pipelines, and other essential infrastructure in oil and gas projects. His primary responsibility in ISO is to ensure that facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations, preventing faults, damage, and leaks.
It seems fitting that Andersen found his way into the ISO field.
“ISO runs in my family. Both my father and brothers work in the same field, so it felt natural for me to follow that path. Growing up, we’d often discuss ISO and rates around the dinner table.”
At 20, Andersen left behind a promising football career to begin working in ISO.
“Now, I manage the ISO budget, and my job is to get the most value from it. I enjoy the challenges—it wouldn’t be as interesting if it were easy.”
His colleagues describe him as “brilliant at using common sense” and not afraid to challenge the status quo when something doesn’t seem right. They also value his positive attitude and the way he ensures everyone feels included.
Setting ambitious goals
Vibeke Monsen Snarberg, Department Manager at Omega 365 Consulting, speaks highly of Andersen.
“We receive extremely positive feedback on the work he does. He always goes the extra mile and is invaluable in his role and as an outstanding ambassador for Omega 365 Consulting.”
Over the years, Andersen has gained experience on ISO projects at Kaefer Energy, Equinor, and Aker BP.
“What I love here is that everyone is equally important, whether you’re the Platform Manager or the Surveyor. Being part of a team makes you want to deliver results and support your leader. I never get tired of that,” he says, laughing.
“There’s no time for TV in the evenings—it’s work from seven in the morning to seven at night. If someone needs help at 4 pm, I’m there. It doesn’t feel right to leave the office at 4 when I’m staying in a rented room anyway.”
When asked what it takes to excel in his role, Andersen says, “You’ve got to be proactive, think creatively, and be willing to take some risks. Being able to handle setbacks and keep moving forward is important too. I always set goals for both the project and myself; and although there are challenges ahead, I think there’s a future in oil and gas that’ll bring change and progress.”
